WE ARE NOT SUFFICIENT OF OURSELVES

WE ARE NOT SUFFICIENT OF OURSELVES

“And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;” 2 Corinthians 3:4-5 (KJV)

As a result of the fall, man has always had that instinct in him to do something to please God. So, man wants to earn the goodness of God. Man wants to earn the favour of God. Beloved, you can’t earn it. That is why Jesus came.

As a result of man’s desire to earn God’s blessing, they demanded the law. They said: “God, what do we do so that we will be right with you? And God said: “You want to be right with me? You want to meet my standard? Then, in the book of Exodus chapter 20 God gave His standard. “Thou shalt not… Thou shall not… Thou shall not…” The very day they got the law, the law giver Moses broke it that very day. What does that show? It shows that man cannot keep the law. Not only that he broke it, but 3,000 people also died on that very day.

So, what is the reason for the law? The law was given so that you can know you can’t keep it and so that you know you need a Saviour. The law is given that we may come to the realization that we are not sufficient of ourselves. Our sufficiency is of God.

Any minister that is only painting the picture of a God that wants to kill you is an imperfect picture of God. A picture of God that is waiting for your next mistake to drop the hammer on your head is an imperfect representation of God. If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.” (Psalms 130:3-4 NKJV).

By grace, we are saved and by grace, we are upheld. The assignment of the New Testament preacher is to help you to live through grace. You are not sufficient of yourself. It is Grace that qualifies you and makes you acceptable to the beloved.
