THE POWER OF HYMNS

“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:19

There is no hymn that we speak that grows old because it is Holy Ghost inspired. Hymns like “Amazing grace how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I am found, was blind and now I see.” Another goes “When peace like a river attendeth my way. When sorrow like sea billows roll. Whatever my lot thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul. It is well with my soul. It is well, it is well with my soul.”

When the devil tries to make me accuse God and say that he has not done anything for me, I will tell him; “Count your blessings name them one by one. Count your blessings see what God has done. Count your blessings name them one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.” When he tries to tell me that I am not saved or because I wear ear rings or trousers I will go to hell, I will say. “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine. Oh what a foretaste of glory divine. Heirs of salvation, purchase of blood. Born of his spirit, washed in his blood. This is my story, this is my song. Praising my savior all the day long.” When he is trying to tell me that my God is not powerful. I will declare; “All hail the power of Jesus name, let angels prostrate for him. Lift up the royal diadem And crown him lord of all.”

You can make up your own spiritual songs, singing in tongues or singing with the understanding. You don’t need to be intimidated by how you sound because your audience is God and he understands your heart. You may think you are singing out of tune but God enjoys it all the same. When you enter that realm what happens is that the peace of God will become your umpire. Right there and then things will become clearer to you. The thing you thought was difficult becomes simple because an idea will be dropped in your heart.
