THE BATTLE IS NOT YOURS
“And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s” 2 Chronicles 20:15 (kjv)
Until you understand that the battle you face in our journey of faith is not your battle, but the Lord’s battle, you will always be defeated. Oftentimes in life, you are faced with situations that make you ask, “what am I going to do?” or “How am I going to deal with this issue?”. The focus is always on yourself and in the end, you get frustrated because you are consumed with how limited you are.
Jehoshaphat in the text for today was faced with a multitude of enemies. But instead of focusing on what he would do, he prayed “O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.” 2 Chronicles 20:12. He confessed his weakness and his dependence on God.
Whenever you look up to God, you will hear Him say to you “Do not be afraid, nor dismayed … for the battle is not yours but God’s … You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourself, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord … “(2 Chr. 20:15,17). Standing still when everything around you is falling apart is difficult. But until you standstill, you cannot see Jesus your Salvation step into the situation.
When Jehoshaphat began to sing about the mercy of God, showing his absolute trust in God’s mercy to turn the situation around, the battlefield was turned into the valley of Barachah (Valley of Blessings) 2 Chr. 20:25-26. Guess what? It took God’s people three days to gather the spoils of war.
No matter the battle you may be facing right now, stand still and see the salvation of God. God is able, faithful, and true to give you victory.
