SONS GIVE ALWAYS
“Take ye from among you an offering unto the LORD: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it, an offering of the LORD; gold, and silver, and brass”
Exodus 35: 5 KJV
The Bible is filled with scriptures where believers are required by God to give. It is part of our obligations as a Church. Exodus 35:1 says: “And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together…” These are supposed to be God’s people who are obedient to God. God didn’t say go and gather every person, the Jebusites, the Amorites, or the Perizzites. He said ‘The children of Israel, my children who I have bought by Covenant, they are the people you should talk to. Even when you are talking to them, you are going to speak to only those who have a willing heart. Not every person!’
And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together and said unto them: These are the words which the Lord had commanded that you should do. According to verses 4 and 5: Moses spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel saying, ‘this is the thing which the Lord has commanded saying, take from among you an offering unto the Lord: whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it.’ Then verse 10 says: “And every wise hearted amongst you shall come and make all that the Lord hath commanded”
If you go to Exodus 36 you will see that in responding, the children of Israel gave much more than was needed for the building of the tabernacle, such that Moses had to prevent them from bringing in more offerings. These were people under the law, they were not under grace, yet they responded with so much enthusiasm. They were not operating in the dimension that we, the new creation, are operating. We are on a higher level. We are sons, they were servants. And we are expected to be more committed to giving. It is an obligation for sons to always give.
