RUN TO THE STRONG TOWER
“But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and gat them up to the top of the tower.” Judges 9:51 (KJV)
In the Book of Judges Chapter 9, Abimelech, in a ploy to succeed his father as king, plotted and killed 70 of his half-brothers. Only one Jotham escaped. In a battle to take a city called Thebez, Abimelech came upon a heavily fortified tower. The civilians headed towards the top of a tower while he fought his way through. Abimelech successfully fought most of the way towards the tower. However, a woman struck his head with a stone from above and he was mortally wounded and eventually died.
The name of the LORD is a strong tower, and the righteousness runs into it, and they are saved. That is your place of safety. And you may ask, how do I run into a strong tower? The way to run into the strong tower is to remember the name of the Lord. The scripture tells us in Psalm 20:7: “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” (KJV). When you remember the name of the Lord your God, “your enemies are brought down and fallen but you will rise and stand upright.”
Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (KJV). Mere calling Jesus when you are overwhelmed saves you. “…When my heart is overwhelmed: Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2 (KJV).
There is a high tower to run to when the enemy begins to roar, rage, and pursue you. Don’t run to the counsel of the ungodly. Don’t run to the way of the sinners; run to the Lord. You will be surprised how many people have been saved out of tragic situations simply by calling the name of Jesus. People have been healed, delivered and set free by calling the name of Jesus.
