NO MORE WORRIES

“Therefore, take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or Wherewithal shall we be clothed?” Matthew 6:31 (KJV)

When Jesus said: take no thought saying what I shall eat, what I shall wear. He was saying: “Stop the worry! I am bigger than all you want.” He was saying, in essence: “Don’t insult me! Are you saying that I am only worth food and clothing? I am bigger than that. All that is already taken care of. I have made the provision available ever before the need arises.”

How many of you remember Ruth? When Ruth got to Bethlehem-Judah and went out to work, she only got one bag of barley after much toiling and sweating. And that would last for only ten days. But when Naomi told her to go and rest at the feet of Boaz, she got a better result. Ruth was not to do anything but simply rest at his feet. When she took the position of rest, she got six bags that would last for sixty days.

Remember also that Ruth found unusual favour before Boaz. Boaz told his servants that Ruth was not to gather grains from the corner. He brought her from the corner to the centre stage. Then he told his young men who were harvesting: when you are harvesting the crops, drop some on purpose so Ruth can pick them. It was a deliberate act. Drop it for her because she has come to a position of rest. And so she did not need to struggle again to pick. She just followed them and was collected. She was collecting what she did not work for. You will collect your portion!

Do not forget that Ruth was a Moabitess, a person without covenant, if she was that blessed, how much more you a covenant child. Boaz took Ruth’s case personally and began to speak for her. She did not need to speak for herself. She eventually became the owner of the field where she had rested. No more toiling and worries! God will raise men for you in high places.
