LOVE IN THE FAMILY

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;” Ephesians 5:25 (KJV)

One of the things that I really love the Bible for is the fact that it is complete. There is something about everything in the Bible. As the world celebrates love, it is interesting to know that many are celebrating what they do not know or fully understand, but as believers, we celebrate love from a point of knowing.

Today, I want us to bring it into the family. The command to husbands is to love their wives. Now, if the Bible stopped here, there would have been many interpretations for it. But God in His infinite wisdom qualified the love. “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church …” Question: how did Christ love the church? That same verse explains it so that there is no ambiguity “… and gave himself for it.” Wow! Did you see that?

Are you a married man or you are a young man looking forward to marriage, can you see that? That is why the family is the replica of the relationship we have with God. The husband represents God but see what is expected of you. Yes, your wife may be unlovable, yes, she may have done something bad that you are finding difficult to forgive, but beloved, I need you to know that when God gave this instruction, He also backed it up with the grace to obey. All you need to do is to build a stronger relationship with God and remember, just like there is no sin too big for God to forgive, there is equally no sin too big for you to forgive and the same goes for the wives too.

Yes, this scripture says husbands love your wives, but that does not mean the wives should not love the husband. With love comes forgiveness. So learn to forgive one another. Be determined to make your home a haven for your children and yourselves, refuse to give the devil any foothold in the family, and be assured that the blessing of God will be evident in your home like never before.
