JESUS AND GOD ARE ONE
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”.
John 1:1
Jesus was not just a man but God. Our text today tells us that clearly and all other truths hang on this truth. If Jesus was just man, His life could only provide a substitute for just one man. However, as God, His life was worth more than the totality of the universe He created. It was worth more than every human life since creation.
Any compromise of His divinity will completely negate His redemptive work in our lives. 1 Timothy 3:16 “… God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” This God came to dwell in a human body.
Philippians. 2:7 “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.” He became a servant.
Hebrews 4;15 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” His humanity made Him one of us. He suffered the same temptations and pressures that we suffer.
Hebrews 7:25 “Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.” His Divinity gave Him the power to save completely. His humanity, however, should not blind us to the fact that this Almighty God became our friend (John 15:13-15). He knows exactly how we feel, and He cares for us. You need to come to terms with the humanity and divinity of Jesus Christ to appreciate the full weight of the sacrifice He made for the redemption of man. When the songwriter said we will never know how much our salvation costs, it is so true. It cannot be quantified.
May you be flooded with the revelation of both the divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ our Lord in all you do.
