IN CHRIST: GOD’S LOVE IS ON DISPLAY
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 (KJV)
An important phrase in our text today is: “whosoever believeth”. Whether white or black, yellow or green is immaterial. Whatever your color or your tribe is, what matters is to believe and receive God’s offer of love. It is your choice! Whosoever believes in him, should not perish, but shall have God’s kind of life. Everlasting life is God’s kind of life. So, it is not you. It is God reaching out to you. In spite of man’s rebellion against God, He still loves the entire world. That is heavy!
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die, yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. (Romans 5:6-8 KJV). God displayed, released, and dispensed His love towards us who were unlovable in Christ. Jesus is the express manifestation of the love of God for sinners. When you receive Christ, you receive His love.
Christ died for us! He showed forth! He decided to fellowship with us. He decided to accept us! He decided to call us in. Others would have rejected us, but God chose to demonstrate His love for us through Christ. “While we were yet sinners…God commended his love towards us.
When you understand this love, what can you fear? What will you be afraid of? Nothing! I believe that one of the things that gave David the boldness to confront Goliath was the understanding that he was God’s beloved. No wonder that despite the mistakes he made, God still called him a man after His heart. David was a man who understood how to feed on God’s love. He knew how to feed on the love, mercy, and grace of God. That is how the believer should function.
