HOPE AGAINST HOPE
“Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.” Romans 4:18 (KJV)
We live in a time when everything is spiralling downwards, and people ask whether God is still on His throne or has gone on vacation. Everywhere you look, there is one crisis or another with no solution. And so, if God is really on the throne, why are we encountering so many challenges? People are asking: Does God still answer prayers? I have prayed, fasted, and sown seeds, yet nothing is changing”. So, God, where are you? Where are those mighty miracles our fathers told us about?
The book of Romans 4 teaches us about Abraham’s faith journey when the odds were stacked against him. God promised Abraham that He would bless Him and Sarah with their child. But at almost 100 years old, it looked impossible. Sarah was way past the childbearing age. So, how can it be? You may be asking the very same questions. The odds may be stacked against you. Impossibilities are staring you in the face, and you are asking: Can it still happen? Can anything good still happen? Or should I pack up and quit?
Abraham, against all hope, believed in hope. He decided to take his attention off his limitations and focused on the One who made the promise. He fixed his eyes on the Way-Maker, the Miracle Worker, and the Promise Keeper. Abraham chose to believe in God. Child of God, it is time to take your eyes off your circumstances and believe in God. Yes, I know the situation is staring at you in the face, and it’s screaming. Yes, I know it looks hopeless. But it is time to hope against hope because God can never fail. Refuse to be distracted by what the enemy is trying to show you. Fix your eyes on the Word of God.
