GRACE IS NOT A LICENSE TO SIN

“What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?” (Romans 6:1 KJV)

Each time grace is preached, the question in Romans 6:1 always follows. It is so easy to misinterpret grace as licence to sin. But Paul answered so clearly GOD FORBID! A lifestyle of sin does not even occur to a grace-filled person. If you understand grace you will realise that sin has no part in you. Will you fall? Of course, you will make certain mistakes, but because you are under grace, you run back into the arms of your Father God and turn away from the sin, the moment you realise it.

Let us bring it home: if you know your father loves you so much and he is ready to do anything for you, will you go and deliberately break the windscreen of his car? The answer is an obvious no. Why not? It is simple, because He loves you, you feel obligated to reciprocate that love by doing only the things that please him. Is that not true? All truth is parallel. That is the same thing with grace. When you understand grace, it generates so much love for the Father in you that the only thing that consumes you is how to please Him.

Paul went on to say “how shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” Did you see that? The moment you accept Jesus into your life, you die to sin, you resurrected with Jesus into righteousness, so all you then do is walk in Him and in Him is no sin. When you understand the love of God for you, you will realise that sin has no place in it. Take your time this week to study the book of Romans. Don’t just read it in a hurry, read it in the translation that is easiest for you to understand. As you read, meditate on the word and pray it into your spirit. By the time you are done with the book of Romans, you will be a changed person, then you will see grace as it truly is: an opportunity to love God unconditionally and to live for Him.
