ENCOURAGE YOURSELF IN THE LORD

ENCOURAGE YOURSELF IN THE LORD

“And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” 1 Samuel 30:6 (KJV)

Beloved, why are you looking for the accolades of men and their support for you when God is for you? If God be for you, who can be against you? You must refuse to allow what people say to determine your actions. Too often we allow our actions to be determined by the opinion of people. You have to be careful not to allow things around you to get to you or get into you. It is not the water around the boat that sinks the boat, but the water that gets into the boat. Don’t let the waters around you to get into you.

From our text, how did David encourage himself after the attack by the Amalekites, when even the men that he raised turned against him? He spoke to himself about all God had done in his life in the past. He spoke about his past victories and how he killed the lion and the bear and how he killed Goliath. He reminded himself of the goodness of God to him when he was abandoned in the backside of the desert. He recalled the faithfulness of God in his life and how God built him up from nothing. Learn to speak to yourself, speak scriptures to yourself.

David told himself, the Lord is my light and my salvation who shall I fear, the Lord is the strength of my life of whom shall I be afraid. When the wicked, even my enemies came up to eat my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Even thou a host should encamp against me, my heart will not fear. Though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident and will I seek after, that I will dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and enquire in his temple? For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion, in the secret of the tabernacle shall he hide me. He will set me upon a rock and he will now lift up my head above my enemies. I will sing praises unto the Lord (Psalm 27:1-6).
