DON’T MISS YOUR DAY OF VISITATION
“And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee, and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.” Luke 19:44 (KJV)
The Bible says in Luke 19:41, that “When he was come near, he beheld the city and wept over it” (KJV). Even though they were rejoicing, Jesus knew that something had shifted from the original arrangement. In verse 42, Jesus said: “…If thou hast known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace, but now they are hid from thine eyes” (KJV).
Jesus was talking about Jerusalem, ‘Shalom’ which means land of ‘peace.’ Jesus was weeping because the things were hidden from the people’s eyes. They were looking, but they were not seeing. In verse 45, the Bible says: “…He went into the temple and began to cast out them that sold there in, and them that bought” (KJV). The temple was a place of praise and prayers. But they turned it into a den of thieves. Jesus wept over it because, it became complete departure from His original intention of God for them. Then He said something strong which is heavy: “you don’t even know the day of your visitation.”
Jesus was speaking to the religious rulers of his day that it is a dangerous thing not to know the time of your visitation. In effect, He was referring to their enthusiasm which was no more. They started praising and worshipping, then suddenly, the tempo went down, and then they continued with business as usual. The excitement and zeal was no more there. No Spiritual addiction! The drive they used to have had vanished. Now they had become casual because the passion was no more there.
Today, you have to beg some people to go to church. Even when they do, they will be checking the time while some will come late. Beloved, don’t lose your passion and enthusiasm for any reason. It is a very bad position to be in.
