DON’T BE SELFISH IN PRAYER
“And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.” Daniel 9:3 (KJV)
Prayer and fasting do not have to be all about you. Some people may say there is nothing to fast about because everything around them seems to be working well. Fasting does not have to be all about you. Fasting is a call for selflessness.
In our scripture today, Daniel declared a fast, took time to seek the face of the Lord in fasting, prayer, and supplication, not because he wanted a business breakthrough or because he wanted a child or a spouse. He undertook this exercise because of the nation of Israel.
As believers, we must be more concerned about being a blessing than being blessed. God has not called you to be the light to yourself and salt to your house. You are called to be the light of the world. Where is your world? Anywhere you are planted, geographically or even professionally is your world. You can belong to the world of accountants, the world of engineers etc. Wherever you are, God expects you to be the light. Look around you, is everything going well? If not, it should call for a concern and you need to pray.
Daniel could have looked around and decide that he was comfortable and ignore the nation of Israel, but not Daniel. He knew that the time for captivity was over, but somehow, they were still stuck there and he took it upon himself to pray. When will you pray about the nation God has planted you in? I know you have all the reasons why the nation cannot prosper. I know that you have the details of all the evil going on in the corridor of power, but do you know that you can make a difference on your knees? That is why God has allowed you to be alive at a time like this. Don’t join the bandwagon of complainers. Get on your knees and birth the desired revival and Heaven will move on your behalf. Be the agent of change your world is looking for.
