BE SOBER

Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.”
1 Thessalonians 5:6

If we are going to walk with God and will be all that God has ordained for us, we must be sober. This calls for discipline and diligence. Be sober means that we must be vigilant for 24 hours of the day. We must be constantly on the watch, not just for some minutes or some hours, but throughout the day. You are told that your adversary the devil, like a roaring lion walketh about day and night. Which means 24 hours present continuous.

If he is walking about, we also should start watching about. I am tired of Christians, filled with the spirit of the Lord, and yet being beaten down by the devil not because God has not provided everything necessary for our victory, but because you are not ready to discipline yourselves. Some people who we call unbelievers discipline themselves to achieve what they have achieved? I was reading sometime about a rich and wealthy philanthropist in this country. I read about when he wakes up from sleep and when he goes to the office and how long he works in the office. I also observed that he has maintained this disciplined lifestyle for several years. Christianity is not laziness my friend. If the world is active, we ought to be more active.

We have a lot of lazy Christians in the church. You can’t say because you have received Jesus therefore you fold your hands, doing nothing and you expect results in your life. You have received Jesus and you are claiming a Mercedes and a good house and at 10 o’clock you’re still sleeping on your bed. If you want to succeed and walk in dominion, it is time to get out of laziness and mediocrity. Jesus is now seated, but before He got there, He walked upon this earth. The assignment is now left for you and I. It is time to rise up and be all that God wants us to be.
