BE ADDICTED TO THE WORD
“Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word.” Psalm 119:9 (KJV)
If the wise man is telling us to give attention to the word of God, then give attention to the word of God. God is saying that we should be addicted to the word. When we talk about addiction, it is not something you do occasionally. It’s a state of you being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically to such an extent that any attempt to stop causes you harm or trauma. You can never have enough of such things. You’re never having enough, you’re always craving and have an obsession with something you are addicted to.
It means you are hooked to it. God wants you to be hooked to the word of God at this present time. Why? Because in Genesis 1:1 the scripture tells us, in the beginning, God created heaven and earth, and Everything that God said came to pass. It is the word that created everything. The word of God is spirit and life. When you function in the word you become invisible to the forces of darkness. When you function within the word there’s nothing the enemies can be able to do against you. This is the time to be addicted to the word and never get enough. Zero in on the word, lay claim to the word, let the word define you, let the word tell you your real identity and not your circumstance, not your background, not your situation. It is the word that has the capacity to define you.
Psalmist said thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you (Psalm119:11). When you walk in the word it keeps you from sinning, when you walk in the word it will also preserve you from evil. The psalmist went further to say I’m a stranger in the earth, hide not thy commandment from me (Psalm 119:11). In other words, if I fail to find the word. I will not know my way around. I’m a stranger and I don’t know how to navigate. I don’t know where the banana peels of life are, and I don’t know where the potholes are. But when I walk in your word, I will be able to find my way.
