ONLY ONE THING IS NEEDFUL

ONLY ONE THING IS NEEDFUL

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” (Colossians 3:2 KJV)

Jesus was preaching on a topic popularly called the Sermon on the Mount. He taught that people should not be thinking of what to eat, what to drink and what to put on, that God already knows you have need of these things. Therefore, you shouldn’t develop stress over them. Don’t become unduly anxious over what to eat, what to drink and what to wear. People are killing people because they want to eat, dress up, build houses and pay bills. But Jesus recommended that only one thing is needful in the place of all those items which constitute things; be it a wife or a husband or even a car. He recommended that what is most needful is to seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness, (not your righteousness) and all other things will be added to you. He said when you get that all other things will be added. You don’t need to struggle for them because they will gravitate towards you. Whether those things like it or not, he will ensure they move towards your direction.

A wise person therefore will desire to seek that singular thing that he is talking about. He placed everything under one compartment. Rather than ask for this or that and your list keeps getting longer, he zeros in on one particular area; He said if you can get this, every other thing will be added. He didn’t say you will struggle for it but that you just know that it will be added. The Bible says it is going to be added according as his divine power has given unto us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of him who has called us unto glory and virtue. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these we might be made partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. Your glory shall be noised abroad.
