Project Nu Wine: Spiritual Brewery For The Talented

Categories: Gospel Music

nu wine fb2PROJECT NU WINE started in 2009 as a Talent Discovery and Development Initiative geared to beam the spotlight on unexposed singing talents by Evangel Voices of TREM Headquarters, to groom and project them to the forefront to become highfliers in the Gospel Music Industry.
Having concluded the Maiden Edition known as Season One (February – April 2009) and in appreciation of their excellent performances, each of the three standing contestants, the second Runner–up, the first Runner-up and the coveted prize-winner respectively, went home with a DVD Player, a flat screen TV and a Home Theatre System. They also received envelopes with money as father’s blessing from the Presiding Bishop, Dr Mike Okonkwo.

The Second Edition tagged INSPIRATION 2012 lasted from May to September, 8th 2012. As an inspiration, the competition was opened to any bone-fide member of TREM Headquarters. At the end, each of the last three standing contestants, The 2nd Runner-up, the 1st Runner-up and the coveted prize winner respectively had a personalized iPad with inscription, “I sang my heart out at Evangel Voices’ Project Nu Wine.” They also went home with an outfit each specially designed by Nelson & Claire plus a Samsung galaxy tab. While an all-expenses paid one week trip to South Africa was given to the coveted prize winner Miss Pate Ebbi who has already accomplished the trip back to Nigeria and had published her experience in South Africa. The Third Edition 2013 WRAP UP had an initial plan to have a competition featuring established TREM Singers across Lagos Metropolis. There was no consensus to that effect but after some deliberations between EVG.C and D.Cs, it was resolved to feature the armatures and   the established singers which gave birth to the ‘Tag Team Edition.’ This was open to all TREM branches in Lagos with online registration for participation. The Mentors and Mentees were registered and auditioned separately to trim down the best mentors and mentees. With this arrangement, an ‘experienced’ soloist was paired with an ‘inexperienced’ singer reducing the number to 14 mentors and 14 mentees while a ballot session produced 14 pairs or 14 teams.

The contract agreement had Flo as the Music Director for the season’s Project, Emeka Ibe became the Band Leader of All Band members and Backups. The Judges were: Dr. Gbenga Kuponiyi, Dupe ‘Ige’ Kachi and Wole Oru while guest Judges were: Mr. Ben Ogbeiwi (Uncle Ben) at semifinals, Patricia Uwaje King (Midnight Crew) at finale.

Rounds 1-4 were held as scheduled against all odds as the Execution Team stretched themselves beyond measures dynamically evolving the plan to birth outstanding all round executions with creativity and skill amidst meager funds. The grand finale was held on Bishop’s birthday, September 10, 2013. The season lasted for a period of 4 months: June to September with four rounds.
